The 721 Club is the successor to the Commissioning Committee for the USS Chicago/SSN 721, organized by the Union League Club to support the commissioning of this Los Angeles class fast-attack submarine in 1986. Out of the club’s sponsorship of the commissioning activities, which included dinners, receptions and gifts for the ship and crew, came the 721 Club – which provides ongoing support and contact with the crew and families of the submarine.
The 721 Club’s activities include:
- Annual contributions to/support for the USS Chicago Wives’ Club
- Providing holiday gifts each year for the children of SSN721’s crew
- Providing annual “ditty bags” of gifts and useful items for all personnel
- Sponsoring a holiday party for the officers and crew of the USS Chicago during the 721 Club’s annual trip to visit the submarine when it returns to its home port
Chicago's namesake nuclear submarine has close ties to the city. Ride along with a group of dedicated civilian supporters as they find out what life's like beneath the waves.
